Projects & Activities > Firefighter of the Year

Community Recognition

The Firefighter of the Year was instigated in 2012 to recognise the outstanding commitment and community service of professional and volunteer firefighters. The recipients are peer nominated and receive the Eric Simmons Medal named in honor of a past president of Darwin North and director of NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services.  A sum of $2,000 is donated to Australian Rotary Health towards ongoing research in to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as it affects emergency services workers.
